To Hire or Not To Hire ... ?

That is the question.

Not everyone thinks that hiring clothing is a good idea, some people would never wear an item of clothing that has been previously worn. I do honestly understand that opinion.

However for many years we in the U.K. have been hiring morning suits and evening wear, this began as an affordable solution for the working classes. This business enjoyed unprecedented growth in the 80's as the working classes became the middle classes and could afford to attend (and were invited to) more prestigious venues.

Through the 90's the business grew as the class divides slowly withdrew. Now it is seen as the norm. Wedding and Evening suits are hired.

Once again times are changing.

We are currently in the middle of a revolution. A fabric revolution. Fabric technology is moving at an ever-increasing pace. Fine, lightweight and luxury fabrics are now capable of performance. An excellent quality lightweight wool so tightly spun that it keeps it shape, does not crease and is capable of multiple wears is now not a rarity. Fabrics are now capable of so much more!

No longer does a hire suit have to be a heavy, hard wool or poly-mix. A hire suit can now be fine, luxurious and lightweight!

Hire suits do not have to be heavy hard fabrics!

Hire suits do not have to be cheap construction!

Hire suits do not have to be old and worn!

Hire suits do not have to be shapeless!

Hire suits do not have to be poorly fitting!

Hire suits CAN be altered to fit correctly!

Hire suits do not have to have backless waistcoats!

Hire suits do not have to have black backed waistcoats!

Hire shirts do not have to be dirty!

Hire cravats do not have to be polyester!

Hire shoes do not have to made of plastic!

If you would prefer modern, stylish, lightweight, excellent quality, fitted suits that you can try on BEFORE you part with your money, why not call Jack Bunneys! Telephone 02085941654

Kilts (Highland Wear)

As we get towards the end of the year our telephone starts to ring! And the question that we will invariably be asked is "Do you hire Kilts?"
It has often been tempting to buy a whole bunch of highland wear and fulfil all of those requests however at a wedding fayre some years back we met a company who changed our minds about ever stocking highland wear. This company is called Nicholson's Highland Supplies. The Kilts and accessories they had were immaculate and of the most fantastic quality but what really stood out was the experienced, knowledgeable and professional staff. These guys really knew their stuff! Ever since we have never been tempted to stock highland wear, we simply refer these calls to : Nicholsons Highland Supplies in Ingatestone.

Wedding Hire The Procedure

Our wedding hire service explained in 6 easy steps!

The Procedure

1. Visit our shop to view our collection. Our full range can only be viewed on the premises.

2. Visit our shop to book a suit and be fitted. It is best to have a correct fitting and try-on the EXACT garment which you will receive on the day. This will ensure you are happy with both quality and fit. A deposit of £30.00 is left to book the suit for the day you require it.

3. Fittings for others. If you have any other members in your party they can be fitted over the next few weeks. No later than 8 weeks before the wearing date.

4. Re-fitting. If you or any other member of your party requires a re-fit then this can be carried out by appointment.

5. Collection. The suit(s) are collected from our shop two working days before the wearing date. On collection we will require your receipt, the balance of the hire charge and a security deposit.

6. Return. The suit(s) are returned to our shop two working days after the wearing date.

Wedding Hire Service

Wedding Hire Service
Our Service.

When a potential customer makes first contact with our business and enquires after our “Wedding Hire” service they will often request our prices first. This is a reasonable thing to ask; however price is not always the determining factor as to whether or not a customer will choose our service. Most of our customer throughout a season will have chosen our service because of the service they have received and the products they have tried-on.
With this in mind I would like to provide you with a breakdown of EXACTLY what you will receive from Jack Bunneys if you choose our service:
· Research and Design (We are constantly monitoring fashions and attending shows and fairs for inspiration)
· Purchasing and Manufacturing (Putting our ideas into production. We source quality factories to make to the highest standard or make our own products. Actually purchasing our products so they are all in store to try.)
· Advice on Fit, Style and Design. (A consultation with an experienced member of staff)
· A Correct Suit Fitting. (to try on the EXACT suit you will receive before booking)
· A Fitting for each member of the party. (Each member of the party will receive a correct fitting, where they can try-on the EXACT garments they will receive on the day.
· Refitting (any member of the party can request a refit at any time)
· Preparation of orders 1. Making cravats and Handkerchiefs. (we make our own cravats and ties in up to 250 shades of silk)
· Preparation of orders 2. Alteration. (We carry out alterations to our hire suits ourselves on the premises, by hand, NO GLUE!)
· Preparation of orders 3. Pressing. (We hand press each garment before it leaves. Including, jacket, waistcoat, trouser, shirts and neckwear.)
· Preparation of orders 4. Bagging and Tagging. (Each piece is put together and bagged individually for each customer. Each bag is named individually.)
· Cleaning and Pressing on Return. (every garment is dry-cleaned and hand pressed on return)

That is a breakdown of the practical things that you will receive with our service. However there are also the other unquantifiable benefits, such as the polite and professional service, the relaxed family atmosphere, the skill and knowledge of bespoke tailors and the experience of wedding professionals.

The Real MCCOY!!! (Brown Wedding Suit)

Hi All,

In my browsings around the interweb, I have come across a site which is using (illegally) an image from our website. This image was shot in our shop by ourselves on a digital camera. The suit that is pictured is a suit which was designed by ourselves and our German Supplier Wilvorst and is therefore exclusive to us.

Please be made aware that if any website other than http://www.jackbunneys.co.uk/ or http://www.clothing-for-men.com/ are trying to sell a suit using this image, it is a fake! and no doubt you will be ripped with an inferior product!

That is my rant for the day over.

Please do not be fooled.

Thanks

Marc

August - A summary.

Well August was certainly an interesting month! This August (2008) was the busiest month of August in the history Jack Bunneys! 50 years of records and we have never before reached the heights of August 2008.

An amazingly busy (and tiring month) which seemed to last forever (as well as go by in a flash!)

Our hire service reached its capacity it became very clear early on that we could no longer book any more hire suits for August or September. Fortunately we stopped all new bookings in July and we managed to get through the month without any serious stress related injuries!

2009 is looking like it could be just as busy! I would advise anyone looking to book hire suits from us for August / September 09 to book early. We have booked a few weddings already and the level of enquiries for 09 have started to rise in recent days.

The Very Best Fabrics in the World

We are a very lucky little family business! We have been fortunate enough to build relationships with some of the finest and most prestigious fabric merchants and mills in the world. These special relationships allows a small family business based in East London access to the most elusive, exclusive and expensive fabrics in the world. Here are just some of our fabric books we are selling from this season:

Based in Peebles, Scotland, Holland & Sherry is one of the most prestigious cloth weavers in the world. For 170 years it has played a leading role in supplying luxury cloths to the top end of the market, bespoke tailors, Parisian haute couture fashion houses and high class garment manufacturers.
As we proudly celebrated our 170th year in business in 2006, we are especially grateful for the loyalty and high expectations of our customers around the world who continue to demand the very finest of exclusive luxury cloths from Holland & Sherry.

Currently Our Best Selling Book Holland and Sherry - Snowy River

Snowy River worsted suitings are now firmly established in the Holland & Sherry collection and are renowned for their excellent performance as a luxurious and very comfortable travel suits around the world. Snowy River Super 100's cloths are woven with extra-fine wool from a hybrid breed of the world's best Australian Merino sheep with exceptional natural qualities. The fleeces from these sheep are very different from those of other breeds, with fibres that are by nature very regular (see illustration) and this permits a very consistent cloth and a sensuous smoothness to its finish. The fibres separate out and reflect light in a unique way. The fleece is light and bright without impurities so that the wool can be processed without harsh chemicals, just by a gentle wash in clear water. This factor demonstrates Holland & Sherry's increasing commitment to our leadership in environmental responsibility.
The collection, with over eighty patterns, focuses on a wide variety of subtle and distinguished stripe designs where the expertise of our skilled designers has captured the very essence of cloth for bespoke tailoring where the cloth aficionado can confidently select several suits. The large number of plain shades are perfect for trousers as well as suits and blazers.

Harrisons of Edinburgh - World Famous Fabrics

Harrisons of Edinburgh was founded in 1863 by Sir George Harrison who began his career as an apprentice with an Edinburgh tailor.
His first business venture was with a partner in establishing a business of wool drapers, hatters and hosiers in 1838.
Twenty five years later he bought over an existing firm of woollen merchants, J & A Ogilvy, changing the name to what is known today as “Harrisons of Edinburgh”.
Harrisons have always traded in the finest cloths and have been the originators of all their designs.

Harrisons Of Edinburgh - Grand Cru - Special Reserve

This is the second edition of this well constructed British cloth, with 2 fold warp and weft, which sets it apart from so many of its competitors. The range maintains its classic look , but has extended with some bold chalk stripes, some semi-classics and by special request 3 patterns with 24ct GOLD and PURE PLATINUM stripes.

Scabal - No1 Saville Row

Only the best raw materials are good enough for Scabal. The Scabal credo is "We never cut costs when it comes to materials." This is why Scabal has always been seen as a supplier of luxury menswear. Only the noblest materials like superfine wools, ranging from Super 100's to Scabal's own Super 200's, cashmere, silk and mohair provide the results and comfort worthy of the Scabal name.

Dormeuil - Made in England

"Welcome to the Universe of Dormeuil Cloth. More than 160 years of research, creativity and innovation brings you the finest cloth in the world"
Dormeuil - ICE
Bunch N° : 852, cloth name : ICE. Contemporary, dynamic and sensual flannel, as conceived by Dormeuil. A totally new creation which combines pure wool, warm and noble, with mohair for its subtle brilliance, and cashmere for its comfort and its astounding softness. An exclusive finish that gives highlights to the fabric and creates a very refined glazing effect. Ice is available in a full range of plain greys, as well as in shades of beige, plain or in subtle chinés, traditional or bold stripes in varying widths, rope patterns, etc. For suits or separate jackets and trousers. Here is Dormeuil at its most modern. Along with this creation, Dormeuil offers numerous versions of traditional flannel.

Dormeuil - Amadeus
Bunch N° : 851, cloth name : AMADEUS. Beyond quality, beyond beauty and know-how: there is excellence. Amadeus is the House of Dormeuil’s signature creation; a timeless classic; an absolute must. Evidenced by the elegance of its fall, its perfect hold and its resistance. A fabric that is easy to work with and can be worn on all occasions. It “flows”, creating a free and fluid silhouette, its discrete sheen giving it distinctive refinement. The material is pure combed wool, woven in England with the utmost respect of tradition. Its weight is ideal. Through 130 refined designs, Dormeuil demonstrates the extent to which its vision of classicism is creative and new: the plains take on relief, tone-on-tone patterns intermix boldly, stripes in brilliant colours bring light to the palette of greys and blues. The fabric comes alive with a natural elegance. All the talent that is uniquely Dormeuil.
Ermenegildo Zegna - Made in Italy
Basing itself on all the years of experience it has acquired, while at the same time constantly investing in research and new technology, the Ermenegildo Zegna wool mill has concentrated most of its activities upon the production of high quality wool, cashmere and mohair fabrics. In other words, the best there could possibly be in the world in terms of noble fibers.

Reid and Taylor - Made in Scotland
Think of the world's most precious fibres, cashmere, silk, 'Escorial', the finest micron wools and you have the very essence of the Reid and Taylor collection.

Also the finest fabrics from Italy: Reda , Cerruti, Lora Piana, Barberis, Luigi Botto and many others.

July - A summary

Hi all,

July has been a busy, BUSY month. It all started with the School Prom Season, which was manic busy! And then the wedding season swung into action and now we are going hell-for leather to complete all of those wedding orders.

This is (by-fay!) the busiest year I have ever known! It is exciting but allot of hard work. We are now no-longer booking 'Brown Wedding Suits' until October and we are no longer booking any wedding suits for most weekends in August and a couple in September. We are now appointment only on Saturdays and we no longer offer an alteration service on suits which are not from Jack Bunneys.

I would like to thank everyone involved with the Barking and Dagenham Business Awards for our Special Recognition Award which we received this month. I was very proud and honoured to accept this award on behalf of all the Bunneys past and present. I can only apologise for the dodgy acceptance speech! I was not expecting to find myself in that position and as such was not prepared.

So I will thank everyone now. Thank you first of all to Mr Jack Bunney, who founded our shop in 1958. He retired in the early Eighties but our shop has worn his name with pride. Unfortunately Jack himself is no longer with us. Secondly I should thank Terry and Peter, these guys bought the shop from Jack when he retired and they are the guys responsible for our success. Terry retired 2 years ago. I should also thank every single customer we have! Who not only pay our wages but (most of which) are jolly nice chaps too!

July has been a great success. Lets see what happens in August ;)
