Welcome to 2015 !!!

Happy New Year to all of our wonderful customers, clients, suppliers and colleagues.

2014 has been an amazing year, we met literally 100's of incredible couples who were wed in 2014, they will forever remember 2014 (and us for that matter) and that is wonderful thing.

But it's New Years Eve, so its time to look forward!

We have 100's of bookings already in place for 2015, we are hoping to have many more too.  It is going to be an incredible year, we are very fortunate to have an imaginative and creative clientele, this means that the weddings, we are lucky enough to be involved in, will all be wonderful!

In 2015 Jack Bunneys will continue to innovate.  We have always tried, and will continue to try, to push the envelope in what can be achieved in not only style and design but also the level of customer that can be achieved.

Our previous innovations have been incredibly successful and we have seen them ripple throughout the industry.

In 2015 we are hoping our latest ideas will be just as influential.

We have a new Wedding Suit Hire range called the, Newbury.  This range is dramatically different from any other hire suit on the market.  The fabrics used to make this range are 100% exclusive to Jack Bunneys and have been created specifically for this sole purpose.

We have also teamed up with the worlds finest cloth merchant 'Holland & Sherry' to create coordinating waistcoats for this new range.  This is our very first collaboration,  and the very first time we have had such an exclusive and bespoke garment available to hire.   This is a true world first.

New Wedding Suit Hire for 2015 - Vintage Inspired Flannel Wool & Tweed Slim Fitting Wedding Suits - The Newbury

The Newbury from Jack Bunneys is an exclusive new 'Wedding Suit Hire' range.

This range uses exclusive West Of England pure wool fabrics in two unusual colours.

The fabrics are lightweight, but also robust, they look deep and heavy but are fine and comfortable to wear.

The colours are unusual and feature hints of natural shades as well as their main shading.

The styling of this new wedding hire suit, is both modern and classical.  It features a very slim fitting trouser and jacket.  Yet also features traditional double breasted horseshoe waistcoats and tweeds.

The design is neither a conventional wedding suit nor everyday business suit.  It is neither weekend country wear nor city business attire.

This new suit defies definition but is also undeniably for a wedding.

This new suit design sets the highest standard in quality and style for 2015.

This new wedding hire suit is ONLY available from Jack Bunneys

Thursday 27 November 2014

Black Friday (sales), Christmas and more moans.

November is traditionally our quiet time.  Wedding season runs all year for us, however we do less weddings in November. We try to make the most of this time.  We have photo-shoots, refits, we paint, we clean, we make everything look shiny and new.  Towards the end of November there is not so much to do.   Like everyone else we start thinking about Christmas, we put in some nice Christmas displays and make the shop all Christmassy and generally get ready for the festive season.

But what's this?  Retailers now have to slash their prices for one day only?  'Black Friday'

I'm sorry but no.  Nope, nada.  We will not being doing that here.  And this is why.

The run up to Christmas should not be about how much money we can spend, how much stuff we can accumulate.  In my opinion Christmas should be about spending real quality time with those you love.  Yes you may buy gifts, but hey don't feel obliged!

The media tells us this is nonsense, we are bombarded with 24 hours of adverts, telling us what we should buy, how much we should buy and why we should buy it.   Non-sensical perfume adverts, gluttonous frozen foods and sickly alcohol adverts start in November.  TV programmes advising on what we should wear for Christmas, how we should cut our hair, how we should think, but most importantly on what we should buy!  Buy, spend, buy spend.

Sure if you want a break from all this expenditure you can hide until after Christmas.  Nope.  No you can't.  Here is the footage on the news of the housewife who left her family to fend for themselves over Christmas so she could stand (camp) in a line for two days, just to be first in line for the DFS Boxing day sale.

You get the idea.  Consumerism is out of hand.  'Black Friday' is just another example of the rampant disease that is in real danger of sucking any goodness from what should be a lovely time of year.

I know what you are thinking, this guy works in retail, surely he knows about margins, seasonal purchasing and all the other fluff retailers should know?    Well yes I do.  And I don't care.  Yes I could have a sale.  Yes I could take some extra money over Christmas.  In the short term this would seem great but Jack Bunneys is different.  We don't have to have a sale and we would rather not take extra money over the Christmas period, instead we will use this time to meet new clients for next year, we will clean, tidy, reorganise but most importantly we will spend (real-quality-time) time with our families.

2015 Wedding Suit Fashion - What Will Happen!

Earlier today I wrote a blog post about what I would like to see happen in Wedding Suit Fashion throughout 2015.  Here it is: Click

However we all know what I would 'Like' to see and what actually 'Will'  happen are two very different things!

There are a few things that I am 100% convinced will be massively popular throughout 2015:

1.  Tweeds/Checks/Country

The whole country check and tweed suit thing will continue and grow throughout 2015.

Bespoke/Hire from Jack Bunneys

2.  Blue, Blue & More Blue

Blue is by far the most popular colour and this is going to continue throughout 2015.

Blue Wedding Suits from Jack Bunneys

3. Slim & Slimmer

Slim fit will continue.  Slim is becoming the usual and slimmer will be the new slim. (makes sense)

4.  It's all about the Groom!

The groom wearing a different suit and being unique has been our preferred set-up for some years but I think this will become the usual in 2015.

Bespoke/Hire from Jack Bunneys

5. Collar Bars!

Everyone loves collar bars!  2014 saw a surge in collar bar sales and this can only continue to grow throughout 2015.
Collar Bar from Jack Bunneys

6.  Coloured shirts!

Why are wedding shirts always white?  Or do they have to be? in 2015 you will see less white and more colours.

Coloured Shirt Jack Bunneys

7.  The Waistcoat is back!

The biggest and most important trend for 2015 will be the waistcoat.  Over the last few years we have seen the decline and virtual extinction of the 'Wedding Waistcoat' but it is now time for it come back and it will be back bigger than ever!    Woollen waistcoats in flannels, tweeds, checks, tattersalls and doeskins.  Single breasted button 4 or 5, horseshoe, double breasted, double breasted horseshoe, with lapels and without!  All sorts of contrasting waistcoats worn by the groom!
I predict that by the end of 2015 the wedding waistcoat will be back!

2015 - Wedding Suit Fashion; what I would like to see happen!

Every year I like to make predictions about what I think will happen the next year in regards to 'Wedding Suits'    Most years I am mostly correct in my predictions,  last year I think I was 100% correct!
In fact I think the fact that I posted the prediction in August 2013 by no means influenced why those things were so popular throughout 2014!   That post was one of the most popular blog posts I have ever done, it was read by literally 1000's of people!

Men's Wedding Fashion Trends - What Will Happen 2014

I will write another post just like that one, where I predict what will happen. And I will probably by quite close to 100% correct again .. however!  I also wrote another blog post.  This post was about what I would 'Like' to see happen in 2014.

Men's Wedding Fashion Trends - What I would 'LIKE' to see happen in 2014

That post was not as popular!  But covered some great trends and some of those trends although not mainstream were certainly very popular throughout 2014.

So todays post is about what I would 'LIKE' to see happen in wedding suit fashions for 2015.  Not what I think will happen but rather what would happen if the whole world agreed with me!

No 1:

Flannel, Flannel and more Flannel.

Tweeds are nice, mohairs are lovely but what about Flannel for a wedding suit?  Never considered it, then now is the time!  Flannel cloths do not have to be heavy or low quality, beautiful lightweight flannels give the comfort of a superfine wool and a quintessentially English country look.

Blue  Flannel

No 2:

Patterned Waistcoats!

What!!!!!! patterned waistcoats are you sure?  Well yes actually but not those swirly polyester things, but what about a prince of wales check or fine tweed?  Contrast waistcoats give you a definitive wedding look but you do not have to have an ivory one!  Try flannels, checks, tweeds, tattersalls or doeskins.

Check waistcoats

No 3:

Colour!!!

Ok so blue is really popular, it has been for years now!  But please can we all just try some other colours which are not black, blue or grey!   Just try brown, give it a go.  It can look great!  What about Burgundy?  sounds horrible, looks amazing!

No 4:

Bow-Ties (again)

I say this every year!  But this year I am adding a caveat to my prediction, please please let bow-ties be popular but please please for the love of all things that can dress themselves learn to tie your bow! A ready-tied bow looks like a ready-tied bow.  This is fine if you are 8 years old, if you are 25 you look a little silly.

Bow Tie wedding suit

No 5:

Individualism!

I would love to see (more than everything else I have stated) each and every customer dressed completely uniquely and perfectly 100% happy in their choice.  That is my ideal.  If that ever happens I will retire and leave this business forever because there would be nothing left to do!

I would love for every groom to know exactly what he wants, to have done his research, to know about cloths and styles.  To be 100% happy that he has made an exact choice and it is as unique to him as his own DNA.

So that is what i would like to see happen in 2015!  What will happen?  Well I have a very good idea. Blog post to follow shortly.

Thursday 30 October 2014

An Interview with myself and 2015 announcements.

On the back of this mornings announcement, I have decided to blog a little about the things which are happening here at JB for 2015.

Q: What was this mornings announcement?

A: Well if you missed it, I announced to the world via social media that Jack Bunneys and Holland & Sherry have collaborated to create Jack Bunneys new wedding waistcoat hire range.

Q: Is this important?

A: It is for me!  & I guess for those people looking for the very best products to hire for their wedding.  Holland & Sherry of Saville Row create the finest fabrics in the world and it is an honour to stock a fabric with such a heritage.  As far as I am aware we are the first hire company in the world too use fabric of this quality for a 'Hire' range.

Q: So you have a new wedding hire waistcoat range for 2015, anything else?

A: Yes actually.  We also have a new wedding hire suit for 2015.  This is using some of the best fabric in the world also.  It will be slim-fit, stylish with a hint of vintage and undeniably English by design.

Q: A new suit range, that is also big news!   When was you going to tell the world?

A: Now!  Well ... I kind of have already, it has been our intention to launch this range for a very long time.  It has been a long time in the planning! very long.

Q: When can we see these new products for 2015?

A: At the minute I am keeping them under-wraps.  You can view them in store.  You might catch the occasional glimpse on Twitter or Instagram, but the actual professional pictures will be shown when we launch the new products for 2015, 1st of January 2015.

Q: There is a whole list of stuff JB is not doing for 2015,  what are they? And why are you not doing them.

A: There are some things that we are going to sacrifice from our business in favour of promoting and growing the things we hope our clients actually want!   1: Cravats; we no longer have a call for hiring cravats, we very rarely get asked for them and they do not compliment our designs.  They will always be available to buy just not for hire.  2: Ivory/Patterned Waistcoats: The vast majority of our wedding waistcoats will no longer be offered for hire in 2015. We have a large collection of woollen, tweed, cloth and fabric waistcoats to hire in lots of different styles, just no ivory/patterned swirly waistcoats, again they do not match the styles of suits that will be offered in 2015 and we are no longer being asked for them.  3: Long Jackets (Edward suits):  The style of this coat is just no longer fashionable, they are big and not fitted, we no longer have any call for them and therefor will not continue to stock them.  4: Kids suits:  This one has been rumbling on for years.  Yes we did stock them for a long time and I am sorry that we no longer offer them.  However we have made the decisions to no longer offer children's suits in favour of concentrating all our efforts on the men.

Q:  Do you offer prom suit hire anymore?

A: No, well yes, but not really.  Clear?

Q: Not really. Care to elaborate?

A:  We no longer stock suits just for school proms like other shops.  We stock our wedding suits and our evening suits to hire.  The wedding suits will be all booked up through June & July and therefor will be unavailable to hire for proms. The dinner suit hire service we offer is available but is only available in the one classic black traditional dinner suit style.  It is a lovely suit and if anyone would like to hire it from a prom they are welcome.   So no & yes.

Q: I heard you are no longer doing wedding fairs or advertising in wedding magazines?

A: Yep.  We enjoyed our wedding fair excursions, however we found that in the end we were doing them for our benefit rather than the benefit of the business. We attended the shows with best intentions but we would invariably have a Fully Booked calendar for the next 6 months and have to turn away some custom.  This did not reflect well on the business (having to turn away customers), we also had a feeling that the format of 'Wedding Fayres/Fairs'  was not something that we wanted to be associated with anymore.  I personally was appalled at how aggressive sales staff can be at wedding shows,  on more than one occasion I have witnessed a bride in tears because of an overly aggressive sales person.  We thought it best for the business not to be associated with that kind of selling.

In regards to magazines; I have a policy of not advertising in print at all.  Not just wedding magazines but all print.  I personally believe the world is saturated with advertising, if you want to be seen and make an impression then do not advertise in print! There are so many other options, most of them more cost affective.

Q: And you are not even producing a print brochure?

A:  I do not think we need one.  I realise that's a little revolutionary in our business but again I do not see the point in a print brochure.  The majority of my customers have a HD screen in their pocket when they come in to see us, why would they want a to look at print of a picture, when they can look at beautiful HD images right on their phone or tablet?   I would rather spend more money on our website, make the website more user friendly and give it more usability and more options.  But most importantly lots of great looking images that customers can view online or in store.  So no paper brochure but we have introduced an Augmented Reality business card!

Q: In 2014 you re-vamped the Worcester hire range and relaunched it. Are you doing that again in 2015?

A: We are going to update the Harrogate Range this year.  The Harrogate has been one of our most popular ranges of all time but it is time for some minor adjustments.  1: Slimmer Trousers, this is overdue for this range and as of January 2015 you will have the option of a slim fit (rather than tailored fit) trouser.  2: Larger sizes, this slim-fitting range has never been available above a 44 chest, however we are going to introduce a 46 and 48 for 2015.

Q: You can book online now?

A: Again yes & no!   You cannot make a booking online, however if a member of your wedding party cannot attend for a fitting (which we prefer) you can book a suit for them online (with a password).  This is part of the websites increase in usability for 2015. Click

Q: I guess you are getting heavily booked for hire now?

A: Yes we are, we are going to be Fully Booked for quite a few weekends for 2015 before the end of 2014.  So to keep everyone up to date we have created a page of the website which is update on a live basis, as we take the bookings.  This allows you to check the availability at any time.  This is part of the websites increase in usability.  Click

Q: Any other new stuff happening?

A: Actually yes!  We have new "Bespoke/Hire" options being created and new made-to-measure samples being created too.  We also have new 'Made to Order' designs which will all be available to buy.   All of these will have to be seen before I explain them further but we should have the images before the end of 2014.

Thank you Marc

You're welcome Marc.

2014 Wedding Season, how did it go? Where do we go from here?

And.............. breath.

Well this weekend is the first weekend since spring that we are not Fully Booked for our wedding hire service.  So this weekend officially marks the end of our summer wedding season. (although we have some busy weekends coming up and Christmas is stacked!)

With a little breathing space (for once) I have been reflecting on how that all went!  It has been busy.  So that's obviously good.  But it's also been fun, inspiring and emotional.  We have seen some amazing weddings, met thousands of incredible humans and a handful of truly inspirational characters.

Sitting here at my computer surrounded by thank you cards, happy faces and smiling bride and grooms, it reminds me just how important my job is.  I know we only help in a small way towards the wedding but in our own small way we feel a part of the bigger whole.  Even if we just alleviate that little bit of stress (that most people, who don't come to JB,  have with wedding suits) then our job has been worthwhile, however sometimes we do more than that, we become part of the day, our suits and our service have an impact on the couple and their families, for just one day we have become honorary family members and we are celebrating your marriage with you, not in person but in our hearts.

To all those that thanked us in person, online, with a 'Thank You' card, with an email or on the telephone, I would like to express a heartfelt: You're Welcome! from all of us here at Jack Bunneys.

Here is just a tiny selection of Thank You cards from our wonderful and amazing customers.
Mr & Mrs Hinks

Mr & Mrs McCann

Mr & Mrs Dowling
To every single person who decided to use Jack Bunneys in 2014, I would like to express our thanks. It is your custom that allows us to still be here.  It is your ideas that keep us moving forward, it is your creativity and enthusiasm that drives us on and keeps us improving year on year.  On behalf of everyone here at JB,  Thank YOU!

So what was 2014 all about?
Well as far as I can tell right now, 2014 was the year for creativity. It was the year to put your thinking cap on!  Every wedding was a little different a little unique, some more than others!   It was challenging, it was creatively inspiring but it was above all fun.  So 2014 was the year for creativity and fun!

Blue suits were still massively popular once again (the fourth year in a row) and I am not sure this trend isn't going to continue throughout 2015.  Slim-fit was also still the mainstay for us here at JB, but tailored fit has made a determined comeback in 2014!

Country-tweed and flannel cloths have also been hugely popular in our made-to-measure department throughout 2014.  The combination of both made-to-measure and hire suits seems to have also been the preferred option for grooms parties in 2014.

Throughout 2014 the most important trends for wedding suits have been:

  • 3.PIece Suits
3.piece wedding suit

  • Slim Fit
Slim Fit Wedding Suit

  • All things Blue
Blue Wedding Suits

  • Country Checks and Tweeds
Country Check and Tweed Wedding Suits

  • Made to Measure Suits and shirts

  • Made in Britain

In 2014 we have also had some emerging trends for wedding suits:

  • Burgundy
Burgundy Wedding Suit

  • Double Breasted

  • Flannel Cloth
Flannel Wedding Suit

  • Tailored Fit

Tailored Fit Wedding Suit

Where are we going in 2015?

We have some new designs coming out, these take inspiration from all of the above.  We have an incredible new hire suit, which is going to be one of the best suits we have ever hired.  We have some new exclusive made-to-order designs, a new 'bespoke/hire' range and some amazing made-to-measure samples for you to see.

But more importantly than all of those things!  We will continue to be Jack Bunneys, we will be unique, we will take risks, not everyone will like us, we won't be all things to all people.  We will continue to produce products we love and we will continue to supply the best service we can.  Hopefully we can have another year just like this year in 2015!

Katie & Dean's Spectacular Leicester Cathedral Wedding!

Featured Jack Bunney Grooms - Real Weddings

Katie & Deans Spectacular Leicester Cathedral Wedding!

We are always lucky Bunneys here and are involved in some incredible weddings! Today we are blogging what can only be described as a spectacular wedding!   The images are beautiful but the story is incredible too!  So in Deans own words I give you, Kate & Deans Spectacular Leicester Cathedral Wedding:

How did you guys meet?

We met at Bushloe high school aged 11! We spent lots of years chasing each other before we both realised that we were meant to be, we finally got together during university and the rest is history as they say.

How did you propose?

I proposed on Westminster Bridge next to Big Ben on my birthday at midnight, after we had spent the evening at Vertigo42, looking after the engagement ring was quite possibly the most nervous I have ever been! London is a place that Katie loves, and it’s definitely the most romantic thing I have ever done!

I had picked my birthday to throw people of the scent, theres nothing worse than people suggesting “oooh this must be the trip when he’s going to pop the question!”  Thankfully this worked and Katie was completely surprised!

The Stag?

I was part of a double stag do, with one of my best friends Luke, we travelled to Tenerife, but not only that, because it was a double stag do, we had somehow managed to get agreement for a week away! Despite the abuse my liver took during the week, we had a great time away!

How was the wedding planning?

The parts I enjoyed the most are the ones I would consider most “fun”, the food tasting, who doesn’t love a free meal, choosing the entertainment and also picking the venue.

The least fun bits for me are when it gets down to the nitty gritty details, choosing between 5 different beige table cloths just wasn’t for me, thankfully my mother in law stepped up!

We picked all of the major elements together and I also let Katie have freedom to plan her perfect wedding, so it was the best of both worlds!

I would say I had a high level consultancy role, which suited me just fine, I was involved in key decisions and kept away from the finer details!

The Suits? (our favourite bit!)

I hired the Harrogate suit from Jack Bunneys, I knew it was the suit I had to have after seeing my brother in law get married in a similar suit. It is such a well-made suit compared to others available to hire, most wedding suits look like potato sacks! Once I tried it on, it felt great and it was an easy decision!

I thoroughly enjoyed my trips to the Jack Bunneys despite a 3 hour round trip! The staff at Jack Bunneys were extremely helpful and had answers to all of my trivial questions, the best part was the feeling that I could have spent all day there without anyone rushing me along for a decision! However in reality I spent little more than 20minutes there, which goes to show how efficient they are in the right areas.

The Wedding Day Itself?

The day was absolutely amazing, from getting married at the cathedral to the reception at City rooms! The weather also played its part in our big day with torrential rain in the morning, the clouds parted as we got married and the sun was beating down on us, which helped as we had planned for our guests to walk between venues! We almost had a famous guest at our wedding with Richard III due to be buried at Leicester cathedral, luckily the burial was postponed and the disruption was minimal to our big day!

Seeing Katie for the first time on the day was incredible, her dress was stunning, and seeing her helped to calm my own nerves, and from there we thoroughly enjoyed all the different aspects of our wedding day. I was smiling from ear to ear all day long!

One of my best men only had one line to say, and that was to introduce the father of the bride, unfortunately he got flustered and introduced the “bride of the groom!”

There was also a running bet on how long the best man’s speech would last; once he got wind of it, he managed to fix it to make sure my niece won the prize, however my niece had suggested over twenty minutes!

All in all I’m delighted with how our big day went, you put so much effort in the run up that it’s overwhelming when it all goes to plan, our guests had fun celebrating with us, which is what it is all about!

I was most pleased with my speech, after building it up during the day, and also being considered a man of few words, I like to think I came into my own and relaxed into the speech, I managed to cover all emotions and got laughs at the right times!

Our entertainment  “Bird and the Badman” Acoustic Duo:
Having seen Sarah and David perform at Anne-Marie's and Matt's wedding at Hothorpe Hall, we knew they would be the perfect entertainment for our wedding. Sarah has the most beautiful voice. Our guests could not be more complimentary as they performed an eclectic array of music. Both Sarah and David have a really positive approach and willingness to learn any song. Prior to our wedding they learnt a song that would make the day even more special for us. Their take on George Ezra's Budapest was amazing and blew us both away!

My Jack Bunneys suit:
The Harrogate suit from Jack Bunneys was perfect, Im someone that prefers a more fitted suit and this delivered on all aspects, and it looked like it had been made to measure to the exact millimeter! I had so many compliments on the day from my friends & family!

The photographer – One Love Photography:
We chose Gary for his ability to capture the natural shot rather than having scripted / posed shots, and he more than delivered. We have so many amazing photos that have captured our day perfectly; he was a delight to work with and did everything with us in mind, and provided us with nearly 800 photos!

I was very close to crying during my speech, as I was about to thank my inlaws, I was completely overwhelmed with the moment, however luckily I managed to hold it together and compose myself.

The speeches were the best part of the day, the three speeches combined were nearly an hour long, although it didn’t feel like that at all, everyone was having so much fun!
The best man’s speech was great despite the abuse I took; he managed to dish it out to some of our friends as well, which helped to deflect some of the attention from me! Although I must admit I’m looking forward to repaying the favour!

Our wedding day was outstanding, looking back I am so happy that everything went to plan, and of course, I’d love to do it again!

Wow!  That all sounds incredible, what advice would you offer to perspective Grooms?

The only advice I would give, is to make sure you invest time in getting the right suppliers, they can make the day very special, as many of the ones that contributed to our wedding showed!

Katie & Dean Would like to say a special thank you to the following suppliers:

1. Photographer:  One Love Photography - The natural shots Gary captured are stunning.

2.  Flowers/Venue Styling: Eve LilyThe reception at City Rooms looked fantastic, thanks to the hard work of Eve Lily, Nicola put in hours of work to make sure the venue was exactly as the bride had planned, down to the smallest detail!

3. Entertainment: Bird and Badmana truly talented duo, that entertained our guests with their sets! The fact they learnt a song especially for us, shows how dedicated they are to ensuring you have the perfect day!

4. Jack Bunneys - I'm looking for an excuse to hire another suit!!
(ahhh thanks guys!)

5. Wedding Dress: Justin Alexander

6. Venue: Leicester Cathedral

7. Reception: The City Rooms, Leicester

8. Make-Up: Bettie Lottie
