2015 update and Predictions for 2016 - Wedding Suit Style

Good morning all!

It has been quite some time since I have wrote an actual blog post! But here goes, let's see if I can still do it.

2015 has been a very special year for us here at JB.  Once again our tiny little business has taken a step forward, it has been busier than ever and our influence spreads throughout the industry.

Once upon a time,  I would use this blog as a sounding board for new ideas.  I would sit here and try to organise my thoughts onto a screen.  This process of organisation would help mould our ideas into something useful.

But, now something different has happened.

Our influence has become such that if I write down in this blog (or on social media) that I think a certain style will be popular in 2016, for mens wedding suits,  it not only probably will, it will almost certainly be emulated by other businesses, imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, after all.

It with this in mind that I have spent most of the year in a blog and social media black hole.  Posting infrequently and only sharing the vaguest of ideas (even these are being emulated as soon as I post them).   However it is nearly time to share our new 2016 images!  So all will shortly be revealed anyway, so I may as well continue with my annual tradition of predicting 'wedding suit trends' for 2016.

Last year I predicted:

1. Tweeds,  2. Lot's of blue,  3. slim fit,  4. Unique groom suits,  5. collar bars,  6. coloured shirts,  7. the return of the wedding waistcoat.    Heres the post: Click

I am reasonably sure I got the vast majority right!   I can assure you that 2015 was certainly the year for a blue wedding suit!  It was also the year for slim fitting suits to reach the very pinnacle of its fashion arc.  I was 100% correct on the return of the wedding waistcoat however not so much on coloured shirts, ivory and white still being preferred for weddings.

I'm happy with 6 out of 7 though.

What about 2016?

2016 is going to be a year of transition.  With most wedding suits adhering to the same trends as 2015 but towards the end of the year we will see a definite move away from them.   Saturation point has been reached for certain styles and trends.  This will lead to more wedding parties to look to distinguish their wedding suits from other weddings.

1.  Textures and Layers -  2016 will be the year of texture.  Flannels teamed with tweeds.  Houndstooth, dog tooth, worsteds, cottons and silks.  These layers of texture will be worn together and teamed together to create striking ensembles.

2.  Ties - 2016 will be the year of the striking tie.  To finish off the layered and textured wedding suit a striking tie.  Bold stripe, polka dot or woollen ties and bow-ties will be an essential and important part of the finished outfit.

3.  Mix & Match - 2016 will see a departure from the traditional 3.piece suit.   In 2016 we will see jacket, trouser waistcoat separates created to coordinate but not match.  We will see houndstooth, dogtooth or check waistcoat and trousers worn with morning suits.  We will see jacket and waistcoat sets worn with contrast trousers and a variety of different coordinated wedding party members.

4.  Formal -2016 will see a move back towards formal.  With tweeds and country fabrics still on the rise throughout 2016, this is a little bit of a tangent.  But alongside the trend for casual fabrics we will see a rise in the more formal wedding attire, which has fallen from vogue.  Morning suits will return in numbers, but worn in a very traditional sense, with double breasted plain waistcoats and a bold stripe or polk dot tie.  Evening suits will be more common, with black tie being a preferred option for many weddings in 2016.

This is all of the trends which I see emerging towards the second half of 2016.  2017 will be a huge year for change, with many styles and colours which have been popular for the last 5 years, finally falling away, to be replaced by new and interesting trends.
